Historical.
After the First World War (1914-1918), nearly twenty years later, a more political and economic Germany had begun to rise to power with Adolf Hitler leading the way. Hitler formed the National Socialist or the Nazi Party. In which, the party's main goal was to establish a Aryanian Germany. Aryans were considered to be the "first class" demographic during the time of the Nazi Party. Except for the fact that the 500,000 plus Jews in Germany were not in fact Aryan. Hitler then lead Germany up to Kristallnacht or "the night of broken glass." During this time, synagoues were burned down as well as all jewish owned and operated shops had their windows broken. This lead to social and political unrest in Germany.
However, it did not end there. in the second half of the yaer, September 1939, Germans had occupied the western half of Poland. This is significant because Nazi police drove thousands of jews out of their homes and into what was called Ghettos. Ghettos were set up in poor areas in the city. They were riddled with crime and porrly maintained as well as over crowded. The Nazi Party continued to gain power of anything and anyone they could. Leading into 1940 through 1941, the Nazi Party started to force Jews to identify themselves with a Yellow Star on their clothing. Quickly, this turned into the extermination of Jews because now these people were easily distinguishable.
Therefore, the mass killings began. Auschwitz, located in Poland, was the home and grave to millions of Jews. Auschwitz is known as the largest concentration camp. In this "camp" every man, woman and child were starved, weaked and eventually killed. It started with the old and weak and slowly it did not matter. Other concentration camps were built such as Theresienstadt located in the Czech Republic, Bergen-Brelsen, Dachau and Buchenwald located in Germany. It was said that in concentration camps such as Auschwitz that approximately twelve thousand Jews were gased and killed each day.
The 1.6 million Jews that were killed are known in history as victims of the Holocaust. Even still, D-Day which occured on 6 June 1944, marked the beginning of the end for the Nazi Party. However, the Holocaust has still impacted the world today.
